Cut Flowers

The cut flower bed is a new addition to the paddock this year. It measures 5 x 3m and I`m currently in the process of preparing the soil ready for planting. The topsoil was delivered just a few weeks ago and I have added some home made compost into it as a conditioner. There is a cardboard layer to go over this in order to help weed suppression and then a final mulch layer of compost just prior to planting.

The bed will see a combination of perennial and annual plants being grown this year. All have been started from seed, many of which were overwintered in the coldframe to establish a solid root system. This will allow them to become quickly established once they are planted out. Some of the varieties this year will include Dahlia’s, Phlox, Scabious, Cerinthe, Wild Carrot, Larkspur, Sweet Peas, Stocks, Cosmos and Zinnia’s. Keep an eye on my blog for updates!
